One year passes. Another year passes. Then, as soon you know it, already 4 years have passed you by and you don’t even know what that moment felt like anymore. 4 years ago I went to an “artist retreat” in upstate NY. It was also supposed to be an all-women’s retreat hosted by the Radical Matriarchy. However, 2-3 guys showed up and the land it was hosted on was donated to them by a male Russian artist.
Long story short, it was one of the most transformative weekends of my life until then. Not only because the group broke apart shortly after (in 2019) but also because I learned so many things. Among one of them was that I picked up a paint brush again and just painted away for two days straight - day and night. I wildly painted beyond what I even knew.
Since then I have done nothing paint-related every again except for a few smaller projects here and there. Sometimes I miss it, other times I find creativity elsewhere. But the memories stay forever and this one I will cherish for a very long time. (Second image is not my paintings but the host’s).
What are some of the things you have not been able to do these past few years, especially 2020 and beyond? Do you miss it or have you made peace with the past?
