From the moment we are born, we are told NO. "Stop doing this. Stop doing that. Don't do this. You need to do this to fit in instead. If you don't act like this, people won't like you, honor you, respect you..." From the moment we are born, the race begins. It's like fitting a round peg into a square hole. Our worth always somehow depending on the approval or disapproval of others.
This world right now (and for the past hundred of years) has not been made out for individuality. For letting people flow and simply be. I am sure it once existed. But since we are in a slave-master-matrix, it has become increasingly difficult. This is why so much trauma happens during the core years of childhood. Working through these years can be essential and also difficult. But if you want to get to the ground of where most of your worries, insecurities and self-doubt stems from, it has to do with that crucial and initial era in your life.
Because from the moment we are born, we are stopped in our tracks. The word "no" is probably said the most by parents during those times. Positive encouragement helps but it still implies that the child soul needs to be formed, molded and shaped in a way society or expectations seem fit. Through conditioning and programming we are raised to be someone else's dream. But seldom our own.
Unmold yourself. Start saying yes and do the things you really want to do. Be in touch with your truth. It might take years to get through those decades of conditioning. But in the end it's worth it.
